Methodology Overview

Why Model

  • Most service organisations use their P&L and responsibility or cost centre reporting to manage value and particularly Cost
  • P&L's are not aligned to the underlying throughput or the underlying causal mega rout along which revenue and resource consumption flows.
  • In the main Capacity is purchsed in advance and amortised in the P&L, capacity based cost reduction is only achieved when the next purchase commitment time is reached.
  • The P&L is a historical document and is a poor predictive tool often cannot contain or integrate with underlying activity metrics just receivables and payables, capacity, complexity and constraints are hidden
  • ABC systems are not predictive, expensive to develop, completed after the end of a period provide some insights but are not an integrated cost control tool
  • Service and retailing organisations particularly conglomerate or integrated retailers find it difficult to understand service costs baselines or standards owing to rapidly changing mix affecting absorption particularly of fixed resources
  • Non Monoline Service organisations  find it difficult to see activity contribution by BU's Departments and cost centre teams in delivering services a service catalogue is usually not evident
  • ERP solutions are seen as expensive and difficult to manage and implement
